Province to introduce Construction Reform Legislation

Attorney General, Yasir Naqvi, is expected to table the government’s long-awaited construction reform legislation this week, just before the legislature rises for the summer recess.

The draft bill, focused on reforming the existing Construction Lien Act, is also expected to propose a regime to address the issue of prompt payment as well as introduce a new dispute resolution system.

Timetables for review and consultation on the legislation are not yet known. Association staff will review the draft legislation and will issue a bulletin as to its key elements. CEO will continue to advocate on behalf of members and will play an active role as government finalizes the legislation.
