Bruce Matthews, Chief Executive Officer | (416) 620-1400 Ext.224

Bruce G. Matthews, P.Eng. serves as Chief Executive Officer of Consulting Engineers of Ontario. He possesses sixteen years of management experience in not-for-profit organizations.  His association experience includes deputy registrar postings at Professional Engineers Ontario, the Real Estate Council of Ontario and the Ontario College of Trades. 

Bruce has also held board positions, including terms as President and Chair, in the not-for-profit sector with the Human Factors Association of Canada and most recently the Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation. 

First licensed as a professional engineer in 1990, Bruce’s professional engineering experience includes staff and leadership roles at Atomic Energy of Canada, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), BGM Human Factors Engineering and the Ford Motor Company.  He received a Bachelor of Applied Science in Systems Design Engineering at from the University of Waterloo and a Certificate in Building Science from the University of Toronto.

Cindy Gonsalves, Director, Finance & Operation | 416-620-1400 Ext. 225

Cindy Gonsalves is responsible for CEO’s financial reporting and through her reports in administration, communication and member services and events, the association’s operations.

Cindy has 23 years of experience in association management, which includes 16 years with the Ontario Hot Mix Producers Association, where she held the position of director of operations and events, looking after its day-to-day operations, financial reporting and event planning. She also spent six years at the Canadian Payroll Association. Her volunteer activities include being a member of the Canadian Association of Association Executives, which CEO is a member of, and in 2015 is the chair of the CSAE Trillium Chapter Awards Gala committee.

David Zurawel, Director, Government & Stakeholder Relations | 416-620-1400 Ext. 222

David Zurawel is responsible for providing strategic counsel and policy advice while building CEO’s industry profile with government officials and other stakeholders, drawing on more than 15 years’ public affairs experience.

Prior to joining CEO David played a leadership role in Ontario’s public sector efforts to reshape the province’s occupational health and safety system. His other not-for-profit experience includes working in Ontario’s institutional, commercial and industrial (ICI) construction sectors. David has served as an executive assistant to the Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario’s Attorney General, and managed operations of the Ontario government’s Toronto Caucus. He has also worked in public affairs for an international public relations agency and held positions at Canada’s embassy and for a Member of the United States House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.

David earned his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario and his Master of Arts in Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Catherine Morrison, Stakeholder Relations & Research Analyst | 416-620-1400 Ext. 226

Catherine is responsible for providing support on strategic initiatives and conducting policy-based research.

Catherine has a background in the Immigration and Accounting industry. Previously, she held a position as a Law Clerk at Ernst & Young where she administered legal immigration and cross border travel services. She has experience working with international and Canadian clients to assess their immigration needs in order to petition visa applications directly to government agencies.

Catherine earned her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Studies from Queen’s University where she actively involved and educated students on Canadian civic processes and procedures through her work with the Queen’s Model Parliament.

Shelley Bahorie, Marketing & Communications Specialist | 416-620-1400 Ext. 227

At CEO, Shelley Bahorie develops and executes a variety of strategic marketing and communication ventures to continue to shape CEO into the authoritative voice for consulting engineering companies.

With almost ten years of experience in MarComm, Shelley is proficient in digital marketing, analyzing activity, research, and graphic design. Formerly working at another member-based organization, Shelley has acquired invaluable knowledge to effectively communicate across the board, to both internal and external clients.

Shelley holds an Honours Degree from the University of Toronto in English Literature (major), Professional Writing and Communications (minor), and Psychology (minor). Recently, she achieved a certificate in Digital Media Skills from OCAD University.

Lauryn Weinberger, Member Services & Events Planner | 416-620-1400 Ext. 223

Lauryn is responsible for executing CEO’s member services and coordinating all events with the intent to provide benefits to members.

Lauryn is experienced in event management. Previously, she held the position of fundraising coordinator at a leading not for profit organization where she developed and executed numerous events and fundraising campaigns. Lauryn holds a certificate in Event Management from Algonquin College.

Laura Korneluk, Membership and Volunteer Engagement Specialist | 416-620-1400 Ext. 221

Laura serves as the association’s chief engagement advocate, working collaboratively with the volunteer, membership and chapter engagement committees to improve the quality of member engagement and volunteerism.

Laura is experienced in program design and implementation of volunteer, health promotion, and therapeutic recreation programs. Her experience also includes volunteer engagement in both the not-for-profit and public sectors. Prior to joining CEO, Laura worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for a community health center, with a focus of engaging volunteers with physical disabilities.

Laura currently volunteers on Volunteer Management Professionals Canada’s Advocacy and Standards Committee. Additionally, she works with Tanzania Development Trust to map rural areas in Tanzania in order to support outreach efforts that protect girls against violence. Laura holds an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Adult Development from The University of Guelph.
