New EBR Decision Notice Posting: Amendments to O.Reg. 524/98

On November 22, 2016 the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change posted a proposal to amend O. Reg. 524/98 to the Environmental and Regulatory registries that would expand the list of exemptions from section 9 of the Environmental Protection Act (EPA).

After considering all comments received on the posting, a decision has been made to implement the proposal. O. Reg. 14/17, amending O. Reg. 524/98, was filed with the Registrar of Regulations and came into force on February 3, 2017. The regulation can be found here.

The Decision Notice posting describing the ministry’s decision and how public input was considered can be found here.

The amendments to O. Reg. 524/98 will reduce the regulatory burden on less complex activities/facilities whose emissions do not pose a significant risk to human health or the environment. The amendments are also part of the ministry’s overall proposal to modernize air and noise approvals and will help support the implementation of the new Air Emissions EASR regulation (O. Reg. 1/17). Contiue Reading
