Consulting Engineers of Ontario – Niagara Chapter Recognizes the Burgoyne Bridge With an Engineering Award of Merit

Consulting Engineers of Ontario – Niagara Chapter is pleased to announce that the Burgoyne Bridge Replacement Project earned an Engineering Award of Merit. The award was honored at the CEO Niagara Chapter Annual General Meeting held at Amici’s Banquet and Conference Centre in the City of Thorold, on Tuesday March 27th, 2018.

The purpose of the award is to acknowledge projects in the Niagara Area undertaken by CEO Niagara Chapter Consulting Engineering firms which exhibit engineering excellence, improve or enhance the quality of community life and support sustainable growth through their uniqueness, ingenuity and creativity.

The 1,090-ft (333-meter) Burgoyne Bridge, built for the Region of Niagara, is perched above Highway 406 and the Twelve Mile Creek in the City of St. Catharines, Ontario. The two-lane structure replaced the existing bridge that was built over 95 years ago. The new structure possesses landmark qualities and acts as a gateway connecting the Western Hill community and the St. Catharine’s downtown core.

The aesthetics of the bridge and landscaping enhance the surroundings to create a destination for the general public; its design is comprised of numerous plazas to encourage an affable social setting. This landmark bridge has successfully rejuvenated the area, and with the Burgoyne Bridges’ proximity to downtown St. Catharines, has provided the City with state of the art bridge engineering that promises to become synonymous with the City itself.

The project was completed in 2016, with Parsons Inc. (formerly Delcan) as the prime consultant, lead designer, contract administrator, resident engineer, and engineer-of-record.

Special guests at the event included Ron Tripp, Commissioner Public Works – Niagara Region, Mike DiPaola, Burgoyne Bridge Associate Director and Jason Marr, Burgoyne Bridge Project Manager.

Congratulations to the design team and engineers at Parsons for this engineering achievement.
