The 19th Annual Design and Build Competition by Canstruction

On May 15th, 19 teams consisting of engineers, architects, designers and students built innovative sculptures out of canned food creating canstructures; each one representing the need to feed. The canstructures were assembled over night at the Toronto Dominion Centre.

CEO has been a proud sponsor of Canstruction for 19 years. The event is held every year to generate awareness of the importance of food donation and the difference it makes to those less fortunate.

CEO members Blackwell Structural Engineers, IBI Group, DIALOG®, LEA Consulting, Aerocoustics Engineering Ltd, and GM BluePlan Engineering participated in the event. RJC Engineers were the recipient of the Best Original Design award for their canstructure, Slicing Through World Hunger.

Special remarks were made by Steven Titus, President & CEO, Aercoustics Engineering Ltd; Neil Hetherington, CEO, Daily Bread Food Bank; and Francis D’Souza, Senior Manager Editorial/Anchor/Reporter, Citynews Toronto.

The event raised over 52k pounds of food for the Daily Bread Food Bank. The sculptures will be on display to the public until May 19th, when decanstruction will take place.
